MUSKOKA FALLS WATERFALL

Muskoka Falls Waterfall

About Muskoka Falls Waterfall

Located in Bracebridge Ontario Muskoka Falls is a large powerful waterfall that feeds from the south branch of the Muskoka River to the north branch.

Over time the power of the water has carved a large gorge into the land as the water rushes constantly and erodes away at the rock., The river tumbles down a steep narrow chute cut into the Canadian Shield.

The waterfall was natural and wild up until 1906 when a power station and a dam was built to harness the water for generating power.

Today the water is controlled by three gates that control the amount of water that flows and how much water is diverted to the large and unsighly green penstock that carries water down to the power plant at the bottom of the gorge.

Not only is there a large dam, fencing and power plant but a major highway overpass also runs over the waterfall and the entire area is fenced off with several no trespassing signs.

Muskoka Falls is not one that I will ever visit again, while worth a quick stop if in the area or passing through I would not suggest planing a trip just for this one waterfall. There are however several other great waterfalls within a short driving distance from here.
